A Poem::: A Reign of Joy

I started Exile Calling in hopes of eliminating posting my work on this site or on Facebook, but I have so much material now that if I keep releasing one poem of mine in the monthly Exile Calling, I would go years before I would run out. The good news, however, is that I'm compiling a list of poems chronicling my journey in exile. So far, I have selected 32 of which I'm very confident and have edited a few time already- at least for most of them.
In the meantime, here's one I came up with and hope you like. It will not make it into this particular compilation, but I will need to edit it a few times before I can think of doing anything with it.

A Reign of Joy

From the wispiest breath

Is born the gayest of laughter

When the brightest light

Of an ebony sky is borne

By a dejected firefly.

A lover’s caress bears

To fruition the skipping of a heart

Tender and longing for a return

On its investment of kind.

The laughter and light;

The breath and the fiery fly;

The lovers and the night: All

Join in harmony as joy

Reigns for a moment in time.

Staying Focused

I don't know why I feel as if I can accomplish more tasks simultaneously than an eight-armed superman, but it might lie in the youth that still sizzles in my veins. My head is about to explode thinking about the promises I've made, the obligations I have to fulfill, and the dreams I hope to accomplish. I have to admit I have a hard time saying no, but I also know that I can accomplish a lot of things if I can learn to allocate time to tasks in a much more disciplined manner. I waste a lot of time, and the bad thing about that is that once you lose it it never comes back, so I am constantly in this cycle of highs (when I accomplish something) and lows (when I waste time and do nothing).

Next Monday will see the release of the third issue of the Exile Calling journal, which has seen readership steadily increase, and I hope to take a few days after that getting a few contacts together to help get some of my articles published some time next year. I also have to keep up with the numerous forums I belong to online in order to connect with readers and other authors...it's a way for me to win their minds and affections before I swoop in for their purses...I kid , I kid...Anyways, add in the fact that I have to cook at home and you see that I need at least 6 or 7 more hours in a day to the allocated 24. I made the deal to cook while my girlfriend cleans, so I brought that last one upon myself.
Anyways, I am trying hard to keep things in order and stave off the madness I feel rushing to devour and feast upon this hapless creature that is me. I will not let it, however, as I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. I'm about to employ one of them right now...the impregnable nap.

Exile Calling

We are one quick week away from the release of the Exile Calling third issue and I figured I'd post a past issue for some of you who have not received it. If it seems interesting, you can subscribe and will get a new issue every first Monday of the month.

Exile Calling Vol. 1 Issue 1

What I write

I have had a few new followers, people that, supposedly, follow what I write on here and will get crucial insider information about me and my work -on top of other little perks, don't ask me what they are now, though- so I want to go over what it is I write and who I am. I have covered this in my previous post (http://exilewriter.blogspot.com/2009/08/who-am-i-and-what-am-i-currently.html), but I feel the need to say it again because I doubt people have gone back and read the very first post I posted on here. If you have, big ups to you.
I aim to write on three main subjects: 1. Life and its meaning. 2. exile 3. Nature. I explore these subjects through, not only my writing, but also photography. I'm an avid amateur photographer and you can see some of my pics on here or on Facebook. I love being surrounded by nature; understanding that all things have a purpose to which they strain to attain, and an end that is as much about life as is the beginning. I love, especially, water. Anything to do with water moves my spirits in ways I don't even fully comprehend, although it might have something to do with the fact that I'm a Pisces, but who knows.

Currently, I'm working on so many projects that I wouldn't have enough space to list them on here, but the good news is that I have a monthly journal I publish every first Monday of the month and I fill it with as much of my work as I possibly can. It's titled Exile Calling and the third issue is coming out December 7th. If you haven't signed up for it, you can subscribe either through the button at the top right of the page, or you can send me an email. I charge $15 per 12 issues, but I think that's small change to you bigwigs; besides, I have to eat somehow. So far, the circulation is around 25 people and I hope it will grow into three figures by the summer. I, also, hope to begin featuring work of other exiles in future issues.
Well, now you know what I do, but if you've read this far, maybe you deserve knowing who I am. My name is Edouard Samuilovich Mutabazi...some call me Ed, Eddy, Eddie, Edick, J, Kunta, Mr. Ed, Mr. Eddie and, believe it or not, sweetie, baby, and a few other fluffy names...yep, true story.
Now you know all there is to know about me, why don't you tell me about yourself.

Exile Calling Issue 3 Theme

As we get closer to the holiday season, I thought it would be best to look back and give thanks for a wonderful year this has been. I am gearing up the pieces for issue 3 (that's right, issue 3) of Exile Calling and the future gets brighter and brighter as far as work to feature in there and the potential to reach and affect readers all over. The feedback has been great so far, thank you all for supporting me as I climb this literal ladder.
I have decided to make the theme for the upcoming issue Africa to celebrate and give thanks for my homeland. While I might have been born and now live elsewhere, my formative years were spent in Africa and my earliest recollected memories are of walking its dusty streets. I want to show my appreciation for its heroes; to lament its woes; to uphold its virtues, and to proclaim its future.
Now that I know what I want the theme to be, I'm off to polishing the work. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Exile Calling Issue 2 Released

Issue 2 has been released, folks, with Pt. 2 of Onondaga County's Own Peculiar Salamander's Tales, The Crow poem, excerpt from the play Sankara: My Brother, My Enemy, The Peace Song, and a review of Rohinton Mistry's A Fine Balance.

I'm feeling tired, here lately, and I'm wondering whether I need a change of scenery or if it's something else. Hopefully, I'll figure it out soon...thank you all for supporting me, the sky's the limit.

Radically Altering a Story

So I had just sent my Exile Calling Journal to my friend/editor/big bro Les to look over and give input when a thought came to mind about making changes to part 2 of my short story Onondaga County's Own Peculiar Salamander's Tales. Okay, so it wasn't right when I sent it to him, but it was within 24 hours of sending it to him. Anyways, this is not about the time frame, but rather, the radical nature of the alteration...this is like teaching students that the world is flat and then waking up one morning and feeding them crap, like the world is round...or is it the other way around??? Oh, well, you figure it out.
I am about to do a total makeover to how I came to know about, and meet, the salamander. I think the new story will showcase more of the loneliness, friendship, and mystery that I want to project through the series.
I know you are anticipating the Journal (no more calling it a newsletter...there is no news in it), and so am I. Please, stay tuned for any new developments...Peace unto all of you, and me, too, of course.

Exile Calling Issue 2

As the days amble closer to the release of the second issue of Exile Calling, I can't help but look back at the beginning and see how far we've all come. Exactly twenty three days ago, the first issue was released to some rave reviews about the talent (thank you...please, you can sit down and stop clapping now...thank you, thank you) and the idea itself. Those days have gone by fast, rushed on by the prospect of seeing the second issue, which is now a few days away. What I remember the most about those days is the rain, the constant rain, and the clouds blanketing the skies, not in a dark, threatening way, but in a gloomy haze that induces one's eyes to long for the restful reprieve of a warm bed. Now we wait for a little while longer.
 As much as I'm afflicted with loneliness up here, I do appreciate the nature...this is one of the most beautiful places I've been.

Exile Calling Video

I feel an urge to create an Exile Calling video to Lucky Dube's Born to Suffer. Very few artists have impacted me as Lucky has, as his music has been prominent in my plays.
This guy was on par with Bob Marley and other great lyricists and performers advocating for social justice and freedom. RIP, brother.

Staying Alive!!!

It has been quite some time since I last posted something, but I've been busy working on the plays and some poems. I discovered the correct genre of poetry I love most is "epic." Sometimes, I feel as if the English language is still foreign to me because certain words, simple words, just elude my mind.
I have decided, egged on by certain folks, to look at the article about my mom, touch it up, and submit it somewhere. So far, it has received some good reviews, with some suggestions, when I posted it on a Facebook writer's group discussion board. We'll see how that goes.
Anyhows, work is complete on the second issue of Exile Calling, a few subscriptions have already come in (thank you, folks, now I can eat a hearty meal for at least one more day), and I am looking forward to writing some more.

First Subscriptions

Wow, as a writer, it's a great feeling to see the first few subscriptions for my newsletter (journal) come in. I am already looking to see how other displaced and dispossessed exiles like me can contribute their material to diversify the contents. I expected subscriptions to come in, but I didn't think it would be this soon. I thank you all for your support, and I assure you of greater things in the future, such as reinventing the Toyota brand to use cowpower instead of horsepower. I'm looking forward to reaching even more people...Thank you all.

The Newsletter is out, folks

The first issue of EXILE CALLING has been sent out, folks, and I hope it's enjoyed as much as I did when I was putting it together. Some of you may be familiar to some of the works in there, as I used to post them on here, although, if your memory serves you right, you will notice the edited parts.
I'm having a blast right now, and I am already working on the second issue and that's a coming out well...I have to hold myself because I could release a few quality issues for the next few days...no kidding.

Grand Announcement!!! EXILE CALLING

Yesterday I posted that I will no longer be putting my work on this blog or on Facebook because of several reasons. However, I know some of you enjoy reading (as evident in your comments) so I have devised a means to continue supplying you with random acts of genius on my part (note: although it may be true, I am not implying that I am a genius...just that my acts are genius).
I settled on the name, EXILE CALLING, because, as you know, my work is influenced by my exile, and this is my voice calling out. A new issue will be delivered every first Monday of the month and will include segments on the short story, poetry, factoid about me, play excerpt, lyrics (not in the first issue), and book review.
I will be showcasing work that has not been submitted to other publications. The first issue will be sent out this following Monday (10/05/2009). It's really well-laid out, folks, I'm proud of it, myself.
